Raycom Media announced today that Senior Vice President Pat LaPlatney will succeed Paul McTear as President and Chief Executive Officer.
LaPlatney joined Raycom Media in 2007 to launch the company’s digital media strategies and initiatives. LaPlatney now oversees all revenue for the company along with the company’s growing digital ventures like the December 2015 acquisition of PureCars as well as production businesses including Raycom Sports, Tupelo Honey Productions, RTM PowerNation and WebStream Productions.
In making the promotion retiring CEO Paul McTear said, "At Raycom Media we take tremendous pride in a tradition of growing leaders from within the company. We are fortunate to have the caliber of experience, vision and leadership in Pat LaPlatney to promote him to lead this organization. Pat’s involvement over the last nine years at the company has helped us establish and exceed strategic goals for expansion in digital content and revenue. Pat is the ideal leader to successfully guide Raycom Media and our employees to our future goals as we navigate the ever changing needs of our local audiences and clients.
This is LaPlatney’s second tour with Raycom Media having spent eight years with Raycom Sports including as Senior Vice President of Programming and Distribution through 1997. Prior to rejoining Raycom Media in 2007 LaPlatney spent a decade working in senior management roles at Westwood One with oversight of sales, local news and information services, distribution and digital. He spent the early part of his career with Blair Television as an Account Executive and Sales Manager.

LaPlatney currently serves on the National Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors, the ABC Affiliate Board of Governors. LaPlatney is also Chairman of the PEARL TV Group Pearl TV is a partnership of U.S. broadcast companies with a shared interest in technology-related business opportunities, including innovative ways of distributing local content and developing digital media and data driven platforms for the broadcast industry.
LaPlatney and his wife Karen reside in Montgomery, Alabama. They have 4 sons.
