WAFB/WBXH - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The tradition of television in Baton
Rouge began on April 19, 1953, when WAFB signed on the air as the second
television station in Louisiana. Over these 50+ years, Louisiana’s News
Channel has created the number one news organization in the state,
covering local, state, and regional news.
Today, WAFB Channel 9 brings its
viewers 25 hours of news programming each week. Presently, Louisiana's
News Channel is the only network station in the market to air: a
complete rebroadcast of every locally produced newscast, live weekend
morning news program, and a noon news product on our second cable
station. Our anchors, reporters, producers and photographers have won
numerous awards from the Associated Press and the Louisiana Association
of Broadcasters. Recently, WAFB Channel 9 received a record 11
Associated Press Awards.
While news and programming are our
broadcast trademarks, Louisiana’s News Channel is constantly being
honored for its community service. The list of station promotions to
help local non-profit organizations is lengthy, with the St. Jude Dream
Home Giveaway, the St. Vincent de Paul Uniform Drive, the March of Dimes
WalkAmerica, the Volunteer Baton Rouge Volunteer Recognition Program,
the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and the Children’s Fund
Campaign--just to name a few.
Cable Channel 9, Baton Rouge’s only
24-hour local news rebroadcast channel, is also part of the WAFB Family
of Stations. It provides viewers local news at their viewing
convenience.
In September of 2003, WBXH/UPN The
Block began broadcasting in the Baton Rouge area. It is home to
America’s Next Top Model,
WWE Smackdown, the new hit
Everybody Hates Chris,
and classic television favorites.
